Career, Education, & Opportunities (CEO)

As they grow up, your teen must start thinking about and planning for their future — whether it’s attending college or beginning their career. That’s why we’ve partnered with the Indiana Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center to bring Career, Education, & Opportunities (CEO) to the community.

CEO is a professionally facilitated program conducted in conjunction with your local treatment center or chapter. This day long event gives your teen a taste of "real world" responsibility, focusing on career planning, personal finance management and goal setting, as well as helping them understand how to avoid difficulties at the beginning of their life.

The CEO Program is divided into four main activities to fill the day:

  • Who Am I?
  • Career for a Day
  • Reality Store®
  • Turning Your Passion Into Your Future

Once your teen arrives at the program, they will take a preference assessment inventory, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), which is designed to assist them in identifying significant personal preferences. A discussion of each participant’s assessment will then take place, providing a starting point for the day’s activities.

Then, as part of the Career for a Day activity, your teen will receive a binder that includes career/occupation options such as education, degrees and salary. After that, they will be asked to imagine being 25 years old and how they see their life at that time. Your child will be led through a discussion where they will choose a potential career for themselves using their assessment as a guide. Next, your child will get a checkbook and pen to finance their decisions in the Reality Store®.

The purpose of the Reality Store® is to simulate the real world responsibilities of an adult. Your teen will visit booths and make decisions such as buying a house, managing utility costs, purchasing a car and insurance. Their checkbook will be used to help simulate these real-world purchases.

The last activity of the day is Turning Your Passion into Your Future. Your child will go over what they have learned during the day and be asked to make short- and long-term goals for himself. The facilitator will help them discover a path to help them achieve these goals. Your child will end the day by writing a letter to themselves that will be mailed to them 1-2 months later to remind them of the CEO experience.

We also invite parents and caregivers to participate in the CEO Parents’ Track. This allows parents to interact with other families.

Parents and caregivers will benefit by understanding how to better support their child as they learn to plan for a career, set goals, and be fiscally responsible.

If you would like to attend a CEO program in your area, talk to your treatment center or chapter. Baxter will be honored to facilitate the day’s activities for your teen, as they prepare for the next step in life.
